I went to the emergency room on Jan 2004 and had no insurance, and was billed a few thousands for my visit. I have never been so shocked in my life to learn there can be more than just one medical bill, but about three bills, so far. One was for about $1400 and I had a payment plan with them to pay equally for 15 months. I have a document saying that would be the plan, and I was happy to say that last June 2005 was the 15th payment and should have been the last. But I was just charged again on July 2005, and I called to ask why, they said there was more on my balance, an extra $180 for x-rays that was charged in Oct 2004! I said I was never informed of this charge, and they expected me to pay it? So the question is, I had an agreement for $1400 with 15 payments to pay my hospital bill, and now they added 10 months later, a charge they forgot apparently to have the xray. Do I have to pay it, or can I dispute it saying I had a plan to pay it all off in 15 and that it wasn't in the original charge I agreed to pay?! This incident happened in San Diego, CA.
