Default Can You Report Child Molestation After You're an Adult

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan
hi, i started getting molested at the age of 5 until 14 yrs old .. by my brother in law .. i tried to tell when i was 14 and that just cause me to have to recant and apologize to him in front of my sister .. after that i had to move in with my sister and that very night he had intercourse with me for the first time. at that moment i felt helpless .. this went on until i was 24 ..well now i am 37 i dont have any family for the 3rd time over this same issues. they are really pissed this time cause i told my great nieces and my sisters grandbabys mom that he was a pedophile to protect my great niece .so the baby isnt around him. i am not letting him do this any longer ..now there are two more new born baby girls in that household .. on top of this there are others he has molested .. my own sister admitted that to me .. what are my rights and what can i do to stop him and how can i get justice for not being protected by my own sister all those yrs .. my sister turned her back on me and told my whole family i had a affair with her husband to explain all these problems away.. well others can testify that i confided in them with this info when i was a young teen . plus he came onto my middle sister , plus my old babysitter .. there are many pedophiles in his immediate family consisting of 2 sisters and 10 brothers .. plenty others have been molested .. it must stop !!!!!

You may report it to the law enforcement officials where the acts took place. It will be up to them to determine if it is possible to prosecute him at this point.

It's not a good idea to use your email address as a your user name. You're setting yourself up for spam or worse.

You can always report it. First-degree sexual conduct has no limit on when prosecution begins. It would cover sexual penetration when you were under 13, possibly to 16 if he lived in the same household. The lesser sexual conduct charges, alas have a limitations period of ten years from occurance or when you turned 21 (which ever was later).

The real problem is if there is sufficient proof to convict. If all you have is your statement against his, you may be out of luck.
