    Default Credit Report Dispute Issue

    Some of the facts:

    Lost my job in 2001
Did not have a job for over 5 months
Credit Union wrote off debt I had with them
    I got a new job in 2002
Arranged payments to pay off debt
Family member offered to help pay off debts in 2004
Asked CU to accept settlement IF they listed debt as settled and not charged off [not so sure that was a good idea now]
Got a letter indicating that is what they would do
    Paid the settlement
checked credit report in 2005 only to find it was listed as charged off
Ask CU about it and was told they cannot change it
Filed a dispute with credit beaureas, only to be a waste of time
Sent documentation to CU and asked again for them to change - no dice
Sent same documentation to CB - they can do nothing about it
Filed complaint with FCC - nothing they can do about it

It will probably drop off by the end of 2008, but I was wondering what else can I do, short of a lawsuit.

And by the way, just how much does it cost to sue a creditor?

Tell us EXACTLY what the letter said (leaving out personal info).

You don't have a case because you were not damaged.

I will have to do that later as it is not handy.

How is having a lower credit score, not damaging?

Don't you have to pay higher interest rates?
