Default Can You Transfer Your Divorce to Another State

My question involves a marriage in the State of: Vermont, but we both lived in California for 6 months where my husband filed for divorce and i was just served. I still have two more weeks to reply. The court date is May 1. Nonetheless, I would like to change the date, because in the middle of June, i'll be moving to Chicago, Il. I can't afford an attorney, so i have to defend myself. This will be a contested divorce. Is it possible to transfer from California to Chicago, IL and cancel the May date in California?

No, that would not be possible. The divorce is going to take place in CA, so you need to be prepared to deal with that, one way or another.

How many times court dates for settlement could meet, before going to trial? How many court dates could be before the verdict? If i do not have an attorney, do i have to prepare myself for cross-examination or a state attorney will be assigned? I simply can't afford one. Can the court make my husband who works and i don't to pay the attorney fees?

No one can tell you how many hearings would come up. No, a state attorney will not be assigned. You can request that he pay your legal fees, but there is no guarantee it will happen.

I hope your current move is for a job.

My move is because my husband abandoned me and i do not know anyone here. I am not going for work. I've been diagnosed with PTSD, because of everything this man did to me. I am sick, can't sleep, have lots of headaches, simply, i'm not able to work.
