Default Marrying a U.S. Citizen After F1 Opt Expires

If you are in the U.S. on F1 OPT and plan to marry your U.S. citizen fiancée, but won't marry until after your OPT expires, what is the best way to avoid leaving the U.S. between the end of OPT and the marriage, and what is the best way to file immigration petitions after the wedding?

Once OPT expires, the student will have a sixty day grace period in which to leave the U.S.

The student can prepare all of the immigration paperwork and get the medical examination right before the wedding date, then file the petitions immediately after the wedding once they have their marriage certificate (within the 60 day grace period). The couple may want to employ an immigration lawyer to help ensure that they are ready to file, and get their petitions filed on time.
