Default What Can You Do if You're Not Given Promised Promotions

An employee was hired with the promise that within a year he would be promoted to a supervisory position at a higher rate of pay, but that did not happen. During that year, he was told that he was eligible for promotion to other positions, but he has not been promoted at all. None of these promises are in writing. Does the employee have any right to compensation, or any way to make his employer give him a promotion?
