My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan
I went to Kohl's today to purchase a new pair of shoes for work. However, I first decided to shop around in the makeup section. After not being able to find anything I liked that was cheap I decided to shoplift some items. I placed a $15 foundation in my purse as well as a $10 tube of mascara. I was sure nobody saw me. I then proceeded to the shoe aisle and picked out a pair of shoes which I intended to pay for. Surprised at how easy concealing the makeup was I decided to go to the clothes section and see what I could find there. I picked up 3 shirts, one of which I intended to steal that was $20. The other shirts I put back on the rack. I entered the fitting room and ripped the tag off the shirt, folded it up and placed it deep into my purse. I left the fitting room and went to the checkout and paid for my shoes. When I was in line I noticed a man that appeared to be watching me. Once the shoes were paid for I began to leave the store and as soon as I got to the door the man that appeared to be watching me said "Excuse me miss, you need to come with me." Two Loss Prevention people were standing behind him. I knew I was busted so I went with him and they took me to an office, told me they saw me conceal the makeup and had watched me on the cameras and saw me entering the fitting room with 3 shirts and leaving with only 2. I gave everything back and they told me I was banned from Kohl's and they also called the police. The officer arrived and gave me a citation to appear in court. My questions are:
1. Can I ever go back to that Kohl's or any other Kohl's?
2. This was my first time doing this and I deeply regret it, do you think the judge will be more lenient because of that?
3. How much will this cost me? I don't see why the amount of money the items I stole would cost me less than $1500.
