If you are petitioning for adjustment of status based on marriage but do not yet have permanent residency, can you travel outside of the U.S. for a vacation?

The best thing to do is to seek travel authorization / advance parole when you file your I-130 and I-485. You can do that later, but depending upon when you are traveling you may not get approval before your intended travel dates. Also, even with advance parole, if a person has overstayed a prior visa they should not leave the U.S. before getting permanent residency as they may be denied reentry based upon the prior overstay.
