    Default What Happens if the Sponsor of Your Green Card Passes Away

    If somebody sponsors you for permanent residency, and they pass away after you receive your Green Card, what happens? Do you need to find another sponsor?

    After approval of your I-130, if the original I-864 sponsor passes away, you must identify a suitable substitute sponsor. The USCIS provides more information, here.
