My question involves tax law for the state of: North Carolina

I'm a US citizen domiciled in NC but who's currently studying in Luxembourg. After having lived abroad for an entire tax year with all of my income from foreign sources, and with tax filing season approaching, I wanted to make sure of what I needed to file so I don't get nasty surprises, the big one being the state return. I know I have to file an income tax return with the Federal government (combined with the 2555-EZ for the income exclusion), but am I correct in assuming that, because the exclusion will reduce my adjusted gross income to $0, I do not have to file a North Carolina income tax return?
