We live in a beautiful, spacious apartment in Alabama. That said, there have been numerous problems. We signed the lease at $844 a month. We later found out that we pay WAY more than any other tenant there. They knew our income before we signed. Is it against the law to "price gauge" one tenant and not the other? Upon move in, it seemed everything was great. Then we noticed many maintainence issues. The front door would not close correctly with the dead bolt, the patio door as well. It left cracks around the door frame which let bugs in. The common stairwells on the outside were ridden with spider webs and actual spiders. We were told it would be taken care of, after numerous calls and complaints (and five months later and two spider bites to my daughter) it was fixed. What wasn't fixed was the wasp issue. We noticed a mass of over 22 red-tipped wasps coagulated at the top of our patio door. We took pictures, armed up with wasp spray and complained to the management. They acted concerned but really weren't. We traced the origin to holes around our light fixtures in our patio ceiling and to an area on the eave of the roof. After 16 bottles of spray...they seemed to calm down although we asked for a professional to come over and asses the problem. They didn't do anything about it and soon, the wasps went away...because it turned to winter. Now that it is heating up again outside, I have seen four or five flying around in the same spot. I would maybe like to renew my lease but I want to know that this issue will be fixed. What can I do to make sure it is? Does this fall under a category of failing to ensure safe housing? What recourse do I have if a member of my family is injured by these things?
Thanks
