Default Using a Coin Trick to Steal Money

    Hi all.

I'm quite new to this forum, but I need your help about something happened to me. Right, the amount is completely small, but I really need an advice as I don't quite agree the situation, yet I haven't been able to make myself ignore this issue.

I went to the pub for my friend's do. The guy was also there as he's in same company as me. He liked to show off his cheapish pub coin magic, so he asked me to pass him some money. At this point, he just said "have you got coins?". I gave a coin, he showed some 'disappear' trick, after this trick he made the coin appeared - then said, "ok, I'll keep this for a fee".

What I thought first was, "ok, he's in same company, maybe not really intentionally picking me up" - but soon after, as I felt this wasn't right thinking I didn't agree that I would pay for what he was going to show, and he didn't say that I was going to have to pay for what he showed. So I asked him to give my money back, then he refused.

As he's gone to chat with someone else, I had time to confess how I felt with my colleague, and I couldn't stop thinking that this wasn't right. So I went to him again asking him to give my money back - then he again refused. This time saying "I practiced hard, blah blah blah". I was crossed by this, even he tried to show me another stupid trick, I went back to where I was.

Later when I met him in the gents, he said "oh yeah, I'm a thief".

This was the situation. As I wrote in the first place, the amount is nothing. Well, not completely nothing, but what I'm really furious about is what he did to me was wrong, ultimately fraud - which is crime and I want him to realise what he did to me was wrong.

My question is, (ok, apart from 'just forget about this!') what do you think I can do - to realise him that what he did was not right and he should my money back? Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks for reading to the end.

When you are drunk, minor things take on a seemingly greater significance.

Thanks for replies. I wasn't quite drunk, yet the amount of money doesn't really matter. Say, if you passed your $20, or whatever amount money given to the person and suddenly if this person decided to keep it, would it be ok for you? Would it be ok for you to just 'donate' your money for nothing? You would say 'I wouldn't give it away to anyone!', but if you'd give it and it happened, then?

Oh, you should get your quarter back, sure.

But if it's $20 you may get some sympathy. When you see somebody obsessing over a quarter, unfair though it may be, it's really hard not to respond, "Get a life."

I can't help but wonder if your over-the-top reaction to this incident is playing a role in why the other guy refuses to give you the quarter back.

You're right...I'd never give $20 to anyone in a bar.
