Under Title VII, the federal protection against sexual harassment, you must file a complaint with the EEOC within 180 days of the allegedly wrongful act, and must file a lawsuit within 90 days of the issuance of a notice of right to sue. State laws may have different limitations periods. Given the short time frame to act, it makes sense for an employee who has suffered sexual harassment to work with a plaintiff-side employment lawyer.
