While a few states offer a limited right to seek custody rights or visitation based upon your having served as the parent of the children, if that's the case, most states will not give you any rights to your ex's children following divorce.
Your obligations flow from the sponsorship, Form I-864. If your spouse's children end up receiving public assistance, the government can seek reimbursement consistent with your promises on that form.
