In a typical case, nothing changes, except that the bankruptcy lawyer will likely serve the court with notice of the bankruptcy along with the debtor in order to ensure that the lawsuit is stayed. The lawyer may also work to get the bankruptcy filed more quickly, so that notices can go out before the defendant has to file an answer.
