    Default Selling a Car With No Title, Repossessed After Sale

    My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: Ohio.

    I had got a car from a dealer that had many problems they refused to help in any way. So I made an add that said truck no title will get it when I can so I guy agreed to take the truck with a bill of sale. So we traded the truck with a bill of sale for his car with the title. So before o had a chance to pay for the truck the company I got it from called my employer and demand to know where the truck is so I had to tell them. So truck got repossessed and I still have the car and guy is threatening to press charges. Also I am not sure if I have a job now because boss knows and won't answer me at all can either of them do this thanks so much for any advice

    Can I be criminally charged if I posted a truck with no title just bill of sale and a guy contacted me and said he would trade me his car but after a few weeks the truck gets repossessed and guy wants his car back now and also my employer knows what could have happened and hasn't told me if I have a job still or not witch my job and the deal that was made are not connected.can o be charged with a crime and can I.loose my job even tho the two arnt Connected.my boss just knows of the deal thanks

    All the details of the truck sale are important to know if you committed crime. Your post is not very clear on exactly what happened. Why didn’t you have title to the truck? If you did have title, why didn’t you transfer it to the buyer? Did you disclose the lien on the truck? If you lied to the buyer about the truck you may well have committed a fraud crime. If the truck was stolen, then obviously you have a criminal problem there.

    As far as your job I'm assuming that you are not a government employee. If that’s correct then your employer may fire you at any time for almost any reason. The employer doesn't need a good reason. All that matters is that the reason is not one of the few that the law prohibits. The prohibited reasons include firing you because:
    • of your race, color, religion, sex, national origin, citizenship, age, disability, or genetic test information under federal law (some states/localities add a few more categories like sexual orientation);
    • you make certain kinds of reports about the employer to the government or in limited circumstances to specified persons in the employing company itself (known as whistle-blower protection laws);
    • you participate in union organizing activities;
    • you use a right or benefit the law guarantees you (e.g. using leave under FMLA);
    • you filed a bankruptcy petition;
    • your pay was garnished by a single creditor; and
    • you took time off work to attend jury duty (in most states).

    The exact list of prohibited reasons will vary by state. But in every state firing you because you entered into a truck sale that was fraudulent or otherwise shady would not be illegal, even though the sale had nothing to do with your job.
