When I was 19 (almost 7 years ago) and living in NC, I was charged with felony credit card thieft/fraud althought I should have been charged with "guilt by association". Because I was not actually guilty of the charges, but was present at the time of the crime, I was ordered to do community service, pay rest., and would recieve a differed prosecution so long as I completed my part within the time frame provided.
I am currently seeking employment in FL, and have ran into a pickle filling out an application in a sales position because of the following inquiry... "Has a adjudication ever been withheld?" What does this mean?
How am I to handle this? I was told that I wouldn't have this on my record, which is why I agreed to do the community service, but as time as passed, I have discovered that my lawyer was not forth coming with the "fine print" of the arrangement. Because I am applying for a sales position (at an Infiniti dealership), I am aware that this information is relevant and will be a concern of the hiring manager - would one understand that I was young at the time and in the wrong place at the wrong time?
What is this "expungement" ordeal that I have heard about that may help me with cleaning my record?
Thank you kindly, in advance, for your time, information, and advice!
