Unhappy Possitive Urine Test with Prescription Medicine

My question involves criminal law for the state of: CA
I have a prescription for Hydrocodone that expired. A week before I took it I went to the hospital for the pain and they administered Hydrocodone to me and it worked. So when I found the prescription bottle I took the last two pills I had. I have an appointment to see a pain specialist where I will get a current prescription.
I have the documentation from the hospital and the prescriptions. Is it illegal to have taken the pills prescribed me?

Once your prescription is filled it's yours. Why would you think you can't legally possess or take the medication?

The only "expiration" is the date printed on the label after which you shouldn't (for health reasons) take the medication and should dispose of it.

But hey, if you want to risk your life and health taking expired drugs knock yourself out.

Of course, you have said nothing about your parole or probation, so we can just guess about what's really going on here.
