    Default Passport Driver's License Check

    Hello,
What kind of background check is done when applying for a passport renewal in terms of drivers license issues? I know someone who applied for and got a license truthfully in one state after waiting out their revocation period in another state. They just didn't pay the reinstatement fees in that other state and aren't sure what would happen if they drove in that state. If you apply for a passport renewal with your valid license from one state will they see your old license number and alert that state about your new license?

The State Department is not going to run DMV checks with the National Driver Registry (NDR) or check with other states to look for outstanding traffic/license problems in other states because that is not at all relevant when applying for or renewing a passport. when you submit

TM is right with regard to passports.

However, the states do periodically scan the NDRs for other states. It's quite possible if he fraudulently obtained a license while suspended in another state they will discover it on their own. People have gotten bitten by this in the past. Further, in addition to having his "new' license suspended, he may be subject to criminal charges in whatever unnamed state this took place in.

In this case though he waited out the period of time, but simply did not pay to renew his license in the old state (I am assuming because he no longer lived there). So, technically would he still be suspended in that state or simply have no license in that state?

Most states require you to specifically apply for reinstatement rather than just waiting out the revocation period. He's still likely revoked. Of course, we don't know for sure since neither state has been named.
