    Default Bankruptcy and Immigration Status

    First of all, I have to thank all people who put this forum together and those who take time to respond to questions.

    Here is my case:

    My friend is an asylee. He has not commited any crime that he is aware of. However, due to medical bills he had to file for bankruptcy. He is planing to travel but he want to know if this can be used against him as crime and get denied when he comes back..

    Please advise on what he is supposed to do if bankruptcy can be an issue on his status. Does bankruptcy affect immigration status?

    Is there is any other legal procedure he should go through with this country before his departure?

    Hope someone out there will assist me with legal advise..
    Thank you..

    Default Bankruptcy and Immigration

    Bankruptcy is not a crime, and is in fact a right protected within the body of the U.S. constitution.

    I doubt that your friend's bankruptcy would have any effect on his immgration status. However, to be safe, he can use a bankruptcy lawyer who either also practices immigration law, or who is with a firm which offers immigration law services, such that he can be fully informed of any immigration consequences of his bankruptcy proceeding.

    Thank you Aaron for your advise.

    Now, with assumption that bankruptcy may not a problem to his immigration status, and he arleady has his refugee travel document

    let me ask this again..

    Is there is any other legal procedure he should go through with this country (USA) before his departure?

    Thank you
