    Can an offeree accept the original offer after having made a counter-offer?

    As a general rule, no. The counter-offer constitutes a rejection of the offer, and the original offer cannot thereafter be taken unless it is placed back on the table by the party who made the offer. See the Restatement of Contracts (Second), Sec. 39(2).
