Default Internet Chat With an Underaged Person

My question involves criminal law for the state of: pa

Lets say you were talking with someone on a social media site you thought was adult. You talk to someone to claims to be a female, teen, but pics look older. You get suspicious and ask for actual age. Perosn states 16 and which point all converssation and contact ends.

Let's say instead that you have better judgment than that, and that none of that happened.

If you are telling us that you sexually propositioned a minor online, or sent or received inappropriate photographs of yourself or of the minor, then that could be a problem for you. But if all you did was engage in an innocent conversation, it's not an issue.

I would not be telling you that, as it did not...my question is really based on if you are chating with someone and all of a sudden they turn around and state they are not as old as you thought, can you be held liable for not knowing if you stop when you find out

You do realize that the police will conduct stings where they pretend to be a teenager in order to catch perverts right? Don't have sexually explicit conversations with strangers on the Internet. You never know who is on the other end. Could be a middle aged man you were talking to for all you know.

Just chatting no. More than just chatting, possibly.

Chatting is OK. Pictures of the underage person in sexual acts or nude will be a BIG problem so will be enticing them to meet you for sexual activities.

The question is solely about talking, no enticing no trying to meet no asking for pics etc

Oh, for the love of Pete.

IT DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT.

The best way to avoid such situations is not to have sexual talk with people you don't know and can't see. Then you won't have to worry about it.
