A man in California has been charged with making abusive 911 calls. He did not place the calls, and does not know who placed them or even if they were placed at all. What should he do?
The man should work with his criminal defense lawyer to get the police report and copies of the 911 recording. If there are voices on the 911 calls, the man may be able to identify the voices. There should be time, date, and caller ID records for the calls. That information may shed light upon who might have had access to the man's phone, or may be subject to being cross-referenced to the man's telephone records (if available) to document whether or not they were placed from the man's phone (as opposed to another phone or online service that can spoof a telephone number).
