when a child turns 18, can you just kick them out that same day, or do you technically have to evict them, since they're now 18?

If you're charging rent?
nope. it's my BF's daughter, and she lives with us. when she turns 18 next year, we've already told her she's out of there.
just wondering for base covering purposes if we have to actually file an action to have her evicted, or if we can just tell her to get out, since at that point, she will be 18.
As you probably recall from reading this forum, laws are different in each state. I'm not aware of any, though, which make parents evict their adult children absent something that would transform their relationship into one of landlord and tenant.
Change the locks at midnight the day of her birthday.
Make sure she's gone when you change the locks.
Put her stuff on the stoop.
