How can you change your name in Illinois. Can you change your name with a notarized document, without publishing a notice in the newspaper or having a court hearing?

Default Re: How to Change Your Name in Illinois

The process of a name change for an adult is not complex -- see the resources and form, here. However, a legal name change does require a court hearing and a publication of a legal notice. If there are special circumstances involved, such as your trying to avoid having a dangerous ex- track you down, speak with a lawyer or domestic violence shelter about possible ways to protect yourself.
