Default Confession to Crimes After Converting to Christianity

my younger brother has just converted to chrisitanity. as a result, he has turned himself in for four rapes he has committed in the past. he is refusing an attorney.

my questions: he has been held for a few days now. how much longer will they be able to hold him if there is no evidence of his crimes/no charges have ever been pressed? also, if he is released and there is no evidence, will his info. be kept on file until someday he can be found guilty?

reason i ask about the evidence is: he does not know the victim's names or much about them. the one girl he does know is refusing to press charges. i know some info. on the crimes (he wore a condom, gloves, mask).

how do i go about finding an attorney, especially if he doesn't want one?

just doesn't seem like they can have much on him.

It depends upon the basis under which he is being held, whether he has been charged, and if so whether he has posted bail.

If they can't proceed at present on the basis of his confessions, they will certainly keep the confessions on file.

The police will probably work pretty hard to track down victims based upon the information he provides. Technically speaking, as these are felony charges, they don't need the victim's consent to proceed with a prosecution.

Here are some suggestions on hiring a criminal defense lawyer.

It's hard to know whether he's been released because they don't yet have a basis to charge him, or because they have decided not to charge him. They may be continuing their investigation. As the police and prosecutor are unlikely to share their plan, your brother is probably in the best position to estimate their intentions.
