My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Massachusetts
When I originally moved in, I received assistance from a non-profit that helps in such areas. They paid two months of rent (first and last). However, I was not told at the time by the landlord that the house was in foreclosure: her mother had signed the house over to her in her will, but it was part of a reverse mortgage. For the past five years she's been in limbo and renting out part of it. To date, she told no one about the accommodations, and reluctantly admitted the house was in foreclosure because DTA required her to inform me, since my rent money ($650.00) was NOT going towards the mortgage or utilities. Because of this, the no-profit found out, and are threatening to come after me for fraud if I don't pay them back. Apparently, they can't help people in foreclosure.
My question is what do I do in this instance?
