Default False Claim of Notice to Quit

What can you do if your landlord falsely claims to have served a notice to quit when filing for an eviction in California? This is for non-payment of rent, but the tenants were never served with a three-day notice.

The tenants can try to convince the court either that the process server lied on the return of service, or that the notice was not posted and mailed, but it can be difficult to do so. They should see if they can get help from legal aid.
