Default Do You Have to Tell Somebody Your Insurance Policy Limits

A person was in a minor car accident in California, and is concerned that the other driver is making an exaggerated personal injury claim. The person has been asked by their insurance company to consent to inform the person claiming injury of his insurance policy limits. He believes that disclosure will invite the person to demand compensation up to the policy limits and would prefer not to sign a release. Is the allegedly injured driver entitled to that information, in California?

Without his agreeing to provide the information, the other driver would have to file a lawsuit and obtain the information through discovery.
