My question involves criminal law for the state of: utah
feel dumb. first time offense, class b misdemeanor. caught stealing $299 worth of stuff. i know, i don't wanna hear it. it was a dumb idea.. first and last time ever doing that. I was really cooperative and worked with not only the LP but the police officer when he came... they even mentioned that i was cooperative. took my statement and didn't lie. didn't fingerprint me or anything, just gave me a citation to appear in court (which by the way, was that an arrest then, or no?). Since this is a first time offense and class b, would it be out of the question to request a diversion class? and if so, will this actually keep it from going on my record?
also, i'm not sure how arrests work? will that stay on my record even if i'm not formally convicted? sorry for all the questions.
