In New Jersey, how can you get a bank to provide you with the bank account number of your deceased spouse? The bank will not cooperate with requests.

Default Re: How to Get the Bank Account Number of a Deceased Spouse

If the surviving spouse is a named beneficiary, this should not be an issue. As they presumably are not, they will need letters of authority from a probate court -- that is, they'll need to open an estate and get the court to issue them documents that they can show to the bank demonstrating that they're legally entitled to the information.
