My question involves paternity law for the State of: North Carolina

Married to someone else but been separated for awhile. He and I both know he is not the father. Baby does not have a father on the birth certificate and his last name is my maiden name. My boyfriend wants to be added to the birth certificate and baby to have his last name. My son is 2 weeks old. Will the county register of deeds let us make this change without going through court or dna testing? Just to make it simple and fast instead of a long process.
Its your boyfriend the actual father? If he is, then what you want to do can be done, however, its not necessarily the wisest thing for him to do. Getting a DNA test is usually in the best interest of an unwed father.

If he is not the actual father, then that would be paternity fraud, often called a back door adoption.
