Default Can You Keep a Paycheck Issued to You by Mistake

A woman applied for a job through a temp agency, but never worked for them. Some time later she received a paycheck from the agency. Can she cash the check and if she does so could she be charged with a crime?

If she cashes the check, it is possible that it would be treated as a criminal offense. It is better to assume the worst than to gamble your future over a check you know was issued to you by mistake. To be safe, the woman should notify the agency of the mistake and either return or destroy the check at their instruction.
