Default Employee's Rights to Internal Transfer

A job applicant responded to a job posting, and interviewed for the job. They were hired into a different job position, and were told that the position for which they had applied was being eliminated. Six months later the employer again posted the original job. Given that the job was not eliminated, does the employee have any right to be transferred into that job?
