Question Post-employment payment for services already rendered

I am a medical professional in North Carolina. The practice's payment process for the doctors is to pay the doctor their percentage only once the fee has been collected rather than when the services have been rendered. Due to Medicare payment and other insurance issues and so forth this may result in the money not being collected for a number of months.

I am planning on resigning in the next couple of weeks. The owners of the practice have said that they will only pay for collections that are received within 60 days of my resignation. I believe that since the services have already been rendered that I am entitled to payment regardless of the amount of time that elapses between services rendered and collection for the services.

Can someone shed some light on what the law dictates in this situation?

Is there a contract between you and the practice describing what payments are to be made, when they are to be made, and what happens if you leave the practice?
