Default Applying for a Police Job With a Criminal Conviction

    oregon

I was convicted of menacing in 2000. My former husband was abusing me, and I was intoxicated. We were fighting about a knife that I had purchased and spent a lot of money on. The police were called, and I was taken to jail. I pled guilty to menacing because I was afraid of being in jail, and I wanted to get out. I had no idea that it would follow me as it did. Now I want to apply for police jobs, but the charge is considered domestic violence. Any help?

Domestic violence convictions can be a huge impediment to getting a law enforcement job. Not what you want to hear, but it may be best to consider other job opportunities.
