Default Responsibility for Somebody Else's Medical Bills

If you sign a document with a doctor's office stating that you will be responsible for somebody else's medical bills, for how long is that document valid? Do you have to sign a new agreement every year?

The length of time for which the guaranty will remain enforceable will depend upon the language of the document you sign. If the guaranty states that you're only promising to pay unpaid bills for the next 12 months, then you would have no obligation after that time. However, if you guarantee payment of future bills without a time limit, the obligation will carry on for years.
