Default Reporting Somebody for Trying to Hire a Hitman

My question involves police conduct in the State of: new york

Hi, I am totally lost on what to do. I'm being sued by someone in civil court. He basically sues everyone when he doesn't get his way. The person suing me..I got curious and googled his email address. it brought me to a site where people look to hire people to do..well illegal things. His username is the same has his email. His town (a very small town) is listed as where he is from. this can not be coincidence.

He inquired about hiring a hitman in 2010. Is this something I should go to the police with? This is a person who i heard threaten to strangle people before...admittedly he's not all there. he inquired about hiring a hitman in his small town (which is listed) during a time when he was suing the police department for a wrongful arrests (which he wound up losing)

I know I am rambling here...if I report this and it's not what it seems I could be destroying someones life.. I dislike the guy but I don't dislike him that much - however if he is capable of even inquiring about it it has me fearing for my life right now. This post is still up there, It's even archived so there really is no way to delete it. Do I call the police? Am I over reacting?

Please give me suggestions...half of me is glad I looked it up the other half isn't...I guess what I want to know is if I go to the police with this can I get into trouble? what if they accuse me of knowing about this for 6 years and not saying anything? (that is not the case i promise..I found out a couple of hours ago) Do i go to his attorney? Should I get an attorney should I go to the police? I just want to be careful here - I would be grateful for any advice, thank you.

If you find evidence that you believe indicates criminal activity, you can report it to the police. Nobody here can review what you have seen, so we're not in a position to tell you if it suggests an actual crime, a joke, or something else. After six years, prosecution may be impossible under the statute of limitations.

You're being sued, so why not talk this over with the lawyer who is representing you in your defense of the lawsuit? The lawyer may be able to make use of the plaintiff's online activity during his deposition or at trial.

How would you destroy his life? If the Prosecutors Office (DA) doesn't file charges, he will never know anything about what you said.

You need to relax, don't get yourself worked up over what is probably nothing but a nut-case venting.

I think that you are over reacting, but if it makes you comfortable go and pick the phone up.

So is it 6 years that you have known or a few hours?
The police would need proof that you known for any specific amount of time.

Why would you need an attorney? You call the police or you mind your business.
