Can I file for spousal support 7 years after divorce? I was a stay-at-home mother at time of divorce, with no financial or material assets. I interrupted my own professional career development for 10 years with multiple out-of-state moves to support my husband's career development; I continued to work from home or work part time for 4 years after the divorce to provide optimal care for my child until he was in school full time. My ex left the state after our separation and his business went bankrupt. I received no child support, and went deep into debt; my credit was shot. I am now 47 years old with no material assets (don't even own a car), 9k in a 401K, and 10K in debt. My ex is now a multi-millionaire. Am I entitled to receive spousal support which would enable me to recover the level of financial security I would have had if we had stayed together? I have refrained from taking legal action in the past because he has repeatedly threatened to spend any amount of money making my life a living hell if I did so- and because I wanted to protect my son from the emotional effects of a legal battle between his parents. I have a graduate degree but am now way behind where I would have been had I not made my contribution as the primary parent.
