Default Can an Employer Require a Funeral Notice Before Paying Bereavement Leave

An employee took bereavement leave for the death of their mother-in-law, a covered relation under the company's bereavement policy. The company now refuses to pay the employee for the three days covered by bereavement leave because they require the submission of a funeral notice as part of the bereavement leave policy. The employee cannot provide a funeral notice, as the family decided not to hold a funeral. Is there a way for the employee to get the bereavement payment?
