Can You Be Banned from a Store if You Didn't Steal Anything

I to was banned from a store and given a paper to sign that said I shoplifted and said if i didn't they would call the police. I signed and then gave me a paper that said I could never go into any of their stores again (IN ALL STATES). They also said they were letting there lawyers know and i would here from them in regards to compensation. Now that is ridiculous, as I did not take anything.

I am on probation for a shoplifting charge, and I am in therapy. I guess I thought if I did not sign they would call the police and I just felt I could not take that chance. I did say to them, but i did not take, change the price on anything. I had not even left the store, I was in line to pay

So you have a history. What did they say you shoplifted and why would they think you did? If you 100% honestly did not steal that day, you should have stuck to your guns.

I asked them and they said they saw me take a price off an item, I did do that, but I never put it on another item, I threw it away. Like I said i am in therapy, and I said to my self NO. I get what your saying but when pushed against a wall and I didn't want the police to come. The paper I signed is a Trespass Warning and it says
"This trespass warning shall serve as an official notice to _____my name has hereby been denied to enter or remain on or in any ____store name and gives their address in the ___city, state. If you do return to this or any other ___store name you will be in violation of trespass. Then theirs my name, address and SS#". I asked my they need it, but they said some mumble jumble. The the next line says "Subject acknowledges the receipt of this ______store name with signature below".
Then the next line says *Note* This should be given to all individuals who are caught shoplifting**
So I am not sure if I signed that I actually had shoplifted

You should stay out of that store and any other nearby ones for a while then. If they see you and recognize you, they can call the police on you.

In a year or 2, you can try getting the trespass warning lifted.

Yes they can ban you for what you did. In fact they can ban you for just about any reason as long as it isn't due to a legally protected class.

The store has a very good reason for demanding you not return to their property. Since their reason is not based on you being a member of a protected class (race/gender/religion/ethnicity etc.) they are within their rights. They do not have to let someone on their property who tears off labels and has a history of theft. You have no legitimate complaint based on your actions. Your should discuss this principle, and the principle of personal responsibility for most of our own problems, with your therapist.

Why would you take the price tag off an item?
