Default Can an Employer Require a Letter of Resignation After Firing You

My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: Missouri

I'm very confused about what the law is on my situation. I live in Missouri and my employer, based in Chicago, informed me that I was being offered a promotion in Chicago and that my job in Missouri would no longer exist. This promotion included a 10% pay raise (Cost of living alone from Missouri to Chicago is estimated to be 20%) and they mentioned "They'd help with the move". I rejected this offer to move to Chicago because I would essentially be taking a pay cut as a "promotion". They refused to negotiate salary terms with me and told me my last pay day would be November 18th + any PTO I have leftover.

They're now asking that I send them a resignation letter. I'm wondering if I actually have to do this since they've basically terminated me for not moving? I don't want to send in a resignation letter and it not allow me to qualify for any unemployment benefits while I find a new job since this basically came out of no where. Also, I am pretty sure severance packages aren't enforced for any companies but would like anyone that knows more about severance to make sure I have no claim for this. The whole situation is somewhat bizarre since they called this a promotion yet I'd actually be losing money because of cost of living and a LOT of it.

Any help would be appreciated. Just didn't want to send in the resignation letter and then come to regret it later.

    Thank you!
