Default Can an Employer Require Medical Leave if You Have a Doctor's Clearance to Work

May an employer require that an employee take medical leave if the employee has a letter from a doctor authorizing the employee to work?

That will depend upon the facts. If we leave out the word "medical", absent a contract, collective bargaining agreement or civil service law (for public employees) that holds to the contrary, an employer may normally place an employee on 'leave' without cause.
