Default What Happens if You're Unable to Return to Prior Job After FMLA Leave

An employee with osteoarthritis underwent surgery and therapy for a loss of function in his hand, and has now exhausted his FMLA leave. Due to residual disability, he cannot return to his prior job assignment, as he lacks the manual dexterity required to perform his job duties. His employer is allowing him to take additional, unprotected leave, but what can he do if he's not able to return to his job?
