Default Proving U.S. Citizenship to Get a Passport

A minor came to the U.S. at the age of five. The parents naturalized along with the child. Forty years later both parents have passed away, and the now-adult child cannot find either his foreign birth certificate or certificate of naturalization. How can he get a passport?

He should order a copy of his birth certificate from his nation of origin, use the birth certificate to get a copy of his certificate of naturalization from the USCIS, and then proceed to apply for a passport.
