Default Expunged Records and Military Enlistment

If a young adult wants to join the military, but has a record of arrest for a drug possession charge, does he have to disclose that information when he enlists? He received a deferral on the charge so that there was no conviction, and the record has been expunged.

Yes, he will be required to disclose the charge both because the military will ask about all criminal charges, whether or not there was a conviction, and because it involved illegal drugs. He can expect that the military will find out if he provides false or misleading answers.
