Default Denial of Unemployment for Accidentally Taking Merchandise

An employee of a store drank a soda during a busy shift, and forgot to pay for it by the end of her shift. The employee intended to pay for it the next morning, but when she showed up for work she was told that she had been caught stealing the soda and she was fired. She applied for unemployment but her application was denied based upon the alleged theft. Does she have any chance on appeal?

It's a long-shot, but does she have anything to lose by trying? She can appeal and see what happens.
