Default Can You Move Across the Country when You Turn 17

Hi everyone I'm new here and needed help with a question. At the moment I'm 16 and saving money. In August I'll be 17 and would like to voluntarily move out of my home in Ontario and move in with my gf who moved to British Columbia if her parents allow it. Would I be able to do this or is some sort of court action required as I would simply like to tell my parents my decision and go. I would be getting a job there so I could buy my own clothes and food. And would be buying a plane ticket to get there. I would also enrol on the same school as my gf so I would be a full time student with part time work. Any answers are appreciated

    This is legal in Canada.

(And just as an FYI for whoever moved this thread to the Juvenile Law section, Canadians aged aged 16 and over are not legally juveniles. Again, just an FYI.)

Why is it that everything I look up says a person under 18, and 19 in some areas, is a minor

    Who is a minor child?
    Province/Territory Age of Majority
Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Saskatchewan 18

British Columbia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Yukon 19

That's for drinking alcohol, voting and signing some forms of contracts (not rental agreements or health care waivers, they can be signed at 16) and working certain adult-type jobs (mining, bartending etc.). Moving out of one's parents house without parental permission, having sex and/or quitting school can all begin at 16 in Canada.

You are finding that information because the age of majority in Canada is not 16. The fact that different ages are defined for specific purposes does not change that fact. eerelations is confused by the fact that different ages can be set for different legal purposes, even though there is a clearly defined, legal age of majority that otherwise applies by default. The same is true in the U.S.

OP is legally allowed to move across Canada without parental consent from the age of 16 onwards.
