Default Can a Neglected Child Be Placed with Older Sibling

My question involves whether I can get costudy of my little brother for being neglected?

Recently I've been to my mothers house. She is married with three adult girls and one 4 year old boy. My brother is constantly running where he pleases. My mother and father have a serious case of roaches and for years they've done nothing to get rid of them. That is a form of neglect.

Lately my mother and father have been lazy. They will not clean their house and they sit on their computer or the are arguing with the two girls about stupid things. Mind that he is four and can't take care of his self.

He is still in diapers and when he uses the bathroom they leave it on him but no more than two or three hours. Still, an hour is to long. My mother is chemically imbalanced and can't do it on her own. However my father is big and lazy and doesn't want to work even though he is able.

I am 21, going on 22, I've been living on my own now with my fiancé who has a steady job of three years. We've been living here for about a year now. We've got an apartment with two bedrooms and they are nice.

My question is, can me and my fiancé, once we are married, if someone is called in, can we take costudy of him? I know it would go to next Kin and since her sisters all have 4 children them selves and the grandmothers are to old to care for them, wouldn't the eldest daughter be the one to get him?

If it's really so awful, and you believe your brother to be in danger or neglected, why would you wait to call it in? If it's bad enough to be called in, wouldn't any place be better for him then where he is at?

I don't think there is any reason that the child COULDN'T be placed with you, but I don't think it is guaranteed. I don't think whether or not you are married has anything to do with it either.

Have you considered talking to your parents about taking guardianship of your brother? You'd have to approach it carefully lest it blow up in your face.

I would call CPS if it's as bad as you say it is.

No, you really don't know. Kinship placement is never automatic and absolutely not a given.

So. With all of this neglect going on, what have you done about it? You have called the authorities, yes?
