Prosecutors make deals like that all the time. In order to get the more serious offender, they make deals with lesser offenders or choose simply not to charge them. If this employee witnessed a crime and took the computer to prove it, i doubt the prosecutor will file any charges against them.
But, if the OP committed a crime, he probably does not want this issue to ever go to court, I doubt he'll report it.
It doesn't matter - you admitted to doing illegal things. So if you get arrested for those illegal things even if outside of work they can fire you.
She didn't do anything illegal. You did.
Not if you're using your personal computer at work and connected to the organization's server.
What if that business has a policy against using your personal laptop at work? Then what?
You have the worst answers all the time on here Tech Worker. You always seem like you're trolling.
Oh, B.S.
I work for the Fed gov. We have a deal where we can bring our personal devices on the ship and tie to the network. We sign an IT agreement. The Electronics Tech records your MAC address. They also run a virus scan on the device. We are not to access unauthorized websites while using them even though they are our devices. If engaging in "illegal" activities, we risk having the device turned over to the authorities. Also risk discipline up to termination. Usually the offender is some blockhead who can't stay off the porn sites.
Aside from that, they can't just look at our devices willy-nilly. If I don't tie in to the network, I don't have to show them a thing because I am not putting their network at risk.
